Al-Hussein Bin Talal University

( AHU )

 

     Following  the Royal Decree on 28th  April 1999, Al-Hussein Bin Talal was established. It is an official independent  higher education institution whose philosophy is based on seeking excellence by participating in the national development with all its scientific, economic and social facets.

     AHU is a newly established public university. Over the past few years of its establishment, it has shouldered the responsibility to emerge as a modern university with a national, regional and international role that echoes the great name after which it is named and to reflect the achievements by Jordan's higher education.

     Accordingly, AHU has adopted an integrated strategic planning for a modern university that realizes efficiency and excellence within a three-phase plan that can be embodied in :

-         establishing the first university integrated campus nationwide which applied international standards.

-         Establishing distinctive specializations that keep as far as possible away from re-duplications.

-         Preparing teaching staff-members that cope with the new developments of modern time through sending more than ( 150) candidates to pursue their post-graduate studies at well –known foreign universities abroad.

Currently, there are ( 7 ) colleges at AHU, namely: Arts, Educational Sciences, Science, Computer Engineering and information Technology, Mining Engineering and Environment, Business Management and Economy, Archaeology tourism and Hotel Management. These colleges award B.A or B.sc. This is in addition to a Diploma programme at College of Educational Sciences. Furthermore, the university comprises two deanships: Scientific Research, and Students affairs. There are ( 26 ) academic specializations with  ( 16 ) academic specializations due to commence in 2005- 2006.

          A Pioneering and a first ever in the Jordanian universities programme is available at AHU, namely interdisciplinary programme where students can study two specializations chosen by the university, one is major and the other is minor  (see above table ) . This programme allows students to compete on more than one job opportunity in future let alone that the choice of major or minor specialization has been designed to meet labour market requirements and necessaties of modern time.
