Al-Hussein Bin Talal University
( AHU )
Following
the Royal Decree on 28th
April 1999, Al-Hussein Bin Talal was established. It is an official
independent higher education
institution whose philosophy is based on seeking excellence by participating in
the national development with all its scientific, economic and social facets.
AHU is a
newly established public university. Over the past few years of its
establishment, it has shouldered the responsibility to emerge as a modern
university with a national, regional and international role that echoes the
great name after which it is named and to reflect the achievements by Jordan's
higher education.
Accordingly,
AHU has adopted an integrated strategic planning for a modern university that
realizes efficiency and excellence within a three-phase plan that can be
embodied in :
-
establishing
the first university integrated campus nationwide which applied international
standards.
-
Establishing
distinctive specializations that keep as far as possible away from
re-duplications.
-
Preparing
teaching staff-members that cope with the new developments of modern time
through sending more than ( 150) candidates to pursue their post-graduate
studies at well –known foreign universities abroad.
Currently, there are ( 7 ) colleges at AHU, namely: Arts, Educational
Sciences, Science, Computer Engineering and information Technology, Mining
Engineering and Environment, Business Management and Economy, Archaeology
tourism and Hotel Management. These colleges award B.A or B.sc. This is in
addition to a Diploma programme at College of Educational Sciences. Furthermore,
the university comprises two deanships: Scientific Research, and Students
affairs. There are ( 26 ) academic specializations with
( 16 ) academic specializations due to commence in 2005- 2006.
A Pioneering and a first ever in the Jordanian universities programme is
available at AHU, namely interdisciplinary programme where students can study
two specializations chosen by the university, one is major and the other is
minor (see above table ) . This
programme allows students to compete on more than one job opportunity in future
let alone that the choice of major or minor specialization has been designed to
meet labour market requirements and necessaties of modern time.
